EMU Outlasts LC Women 81-72
HARRISONBURG, VA – Despite 16 points from senior Katie Crump, the Eastern Mennonite University women's basketball team held on to defeat Lynchburg College Tuesday 81-72 in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) game.
The Hornets opened a 25-15 lead in the first half with seven minutes left. The Royals finished the half on a 22-13 run and LC entered intermission with just a 38-37 lead. The entire second half was close, with EMU trying to extend a lead and the Hornets staying close. LC held its last lead at 45-43 with 17 minutes on the game clock, but an Eastern Mennonite three-pointer put the Royals up for good.
EMU led 75-69 with 1:46 to play, before a traditional three-point play from freshman guard Katie Reeves cut the lead to three, but the Hornets couldn't score again.
Crump made 8-of-13 shots from the field en route to her team-high point total, and added six rebounds. Freshman forward Shannon Allan filled up the stat sheet with 14 points, 10 rebounds, three assists, three blocks and two steals. Sophomore Caleigh Patterson tallied 13 points and six boards and Reeves had 11 points and six rebounds. Carly Greenlief tallied eight points and a team-high 12 rebounds and Roslyn Alexander had eight points, five assists and four rebounds.
Bianca Ygarza scored a game-high 19 points for EMU (8-1/5-1 ODAC) and grabbed 13 a game-high rebounds. Four other Royals scored in double figures, including Raiven Patterson with 11 points and five rebounds.
The Hornets (1-8/0-4 ODAC) host Hollins University Saturday at 4 p.m.
