Hornet Men Upend Guilford 78-65
LYNCHBURG, VA – Sophomore guard Xavier Parham posted 18 points, six assists, four rebounds and four steals Saturday afternoon as the Lynchburg College men's basketball team defeated Guilford College 78-65 in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) action.
The first half was tight the entire 20 minutes. Neither team held a lead of more than five points and the score was tied four times. Guilford opened a 36-31 lead with just over two minutes left, but LC closed with a 9-2 run, capped by a Manny Hernandez 25-foot three pointer at the buzzer to enter intermission with a 40-38 advantage.
LC came out of the break on fire, netting the first 12 points of the second half, to take a 52-38 lead. LC led by at least nine points the rest of the way.
Parham was 6-9 from the floor and 3-5 from three-point range. Senior Nate Campbell scored 15 points and added five rebounds while junior center Austin Chillemi had a nice game in the paint, tallying 13 points, six rebounds, four blocked shots and four steals. Brandan Connor had 10 points and five rebounds, and Hernandez and Michael Glover scored eight and seven points, respectively.
Josh Pittman scored a team-high 15 points for Guilford (9-5/3-2 ODAC) and grabbed five rebounds. Will freeman scored 14 and Matt McCarthy had 11.
The win is the Hornets first victory over the Quakers since the 2004-05 season.
Lynchburg (9-5/3-2 ODAC) travels to Hampden-Sydney College Wednesday for another ODAC game at 7 p.m.
