Lynchburg Women's Basketball Falls to Hollins 73-71
LYNCHBURG, VA – The Hollins University women's basketball sank four key free throws in the last 30 seconds of the game on Saturday to defeat Lynchburg College 73-71 in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) action.
The Hornets were led in scoring by freshman Shannon Allan who had 17 points, and seniors Caitlin Falls and Carly Creenlief who each had 13. Allan also contributed eight rebounds and two blocks.
Lynchburg began the game with a 12-2 run in the first 4:49 before Hollins narrowed the lead to two at 11:46. A three-pointer from Lacie Forrest of Hollins at 4:28 tied the game up at 24, and HU finished the half with a 36-33 lead over LC.
Hollins maintained the lead until 16:28 when Lynchburg tied the game at 41. Each team traded shots until LC opened up a four-point lead at 7:18 after a couple of made free throws from Falls. Both teams were tied at 69 with 40 seconds left but Jasmine Greene and Forrest each hit a pair of free throws to seal the 73-71 victory for Hollins.
Senior Katie Crump registered eight points and nine boards and sophomore Caleigh Patterson scored seven points. Sophomore Roslyn Alexander led the team in rebounds with 10.
Greene led Hollins (4-6/3-3 ODAC) with 22 points while Forrest chipped in 19 and Lauren Morris scored 12.
Lynchburg (2-8/1-4 ODAC) hosts Washington & Lee University next Friday night at 7 pm in Turner Gym.
