Guilford Defeats LC Women's Basketball 64-56

LYNCHBURG, VA – The Lynchburg College women's basketball team was unable to complete a comeback Saturday on Senior Day, as LC lost to Guilford College 64-56 in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play. The Hornets were down by as much as 12 with 2:25 left before narrowing the gap to six, but the Quakers held the lead for the victory.

Freshman Shannon Allan continued her stellar rookie season with another double-digit outing. She led all players with 22 points along with grabbing nine rebounds and blocking two shots. Allan went 10-11 from the free-throw line.

Senior Carly Greenlief scored 12 points and tallied six rebounds while sophomore Caleigh Patterson added nine points and 10 rebounds.

The first half featured several lead changes, though Guilford held a 12-5 lead at 14:28 before LC tied it up at 14 after two back-to-back layups from Patterson. GC took a 32-30 lead heading into halftime after a layup from Gabby Oglesby with 21 seconds left in the period.

Guilford used a 8-0 run beginning at 18:00  of the second half after leading 36-32 to put distance between Lynchburg. The Quakers extended the lead to 14 after a jumper from Brittany Drew at 6:23 to go ahead 55-41.

Lynchburg eventually fought back, with a three-point bucket from junior Shea Kelley with nine seconds left to make it a 62-56 game, but Guilford held on for the win.

Oglesby led the Quakers (17-5/14-3 ODAC) with 15 points, going 6-7 from the floor while adding seven rebounds. Drew contributed 12 points in the Guilford victory.

Lynchburg (8-15/7-11 ODAC) hosts Roanoke College on Tuesday night at 7 p.m.
