Shannon Allan Posts 18 Points and 15 Rebounds as LC Rolls 72-53 over Roanoke
LYNCHBURG, VA – Freshman forward Shannon Allan was dominant on both ends of the floor Tuesday evening as the Lynchburg College women's basketball team defeated visiting Roanoke College 72-53 in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) matchup.
Allan had game-highs of 18 points, 15 rebounds and seven assists - and added two blocks and two steals in 32 minutes of action before fouling out in the closing minute. Her first-half play (13 points, 11 rebounds and four assists) was key in LC gaining a 41-26 advantage at intermission.
Lynchburg extended the lead to 21 (61-40) with 11:07 on the game clock before the Maroons would rally. RC used a 9-0 run to cut the lead to 61-49 with 5:32 left, but traditional three-point play from senior Carly Greenlief ended the momentum and LC cruised to the 19-point victory.
Greenlief tied Allan with a game-high 18 points, hitting three three-pointers and tallying five rebounds and four assists. Junior Shea Kelley also had a nice all-around game with six points, nine rebounds and five assists and senior forward Katie Crump had nine points.
Paxton Gwin led the Maroons (7-15/7-11 ODAC) with 15 points and five rebounds. Tatum McKee contributed 12 points, seven rebounds and six steals and Taylor Duggins added 10 points.
Lynchburg shot 46 percent (11-24) from three-point range, while Roanoke hit just 27 percent (4-15) of its tries from deep. The Hornets had a nine-rebound advantage (43-34), including 16 offensive caroms.
The win was an important one in the ODAC standings heading into next week's eight-team conference tournament. LC is now in seventh place and a half game ahead of Roanoke and Hollins University. The Hornets (9-15/8-11 ODAC) travel to Washington & Lee University Friday for their last regular season of the 2011-12 campaign.
