Hornet Men Defeat Bridgewater 66-62
BRIDGEWATER, VA – Junior center Austin Chillemi posted a game-high 20 points and eight rebounds Saturday afternoon as the Lynchburg College men's basketball team defeated Bridgewater College 66-62 in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) game.
The Hornets controlled the early action, taking a 27-11 lead with six minutes remaining in the first half after a jumper from Chillemi. Bridgewater scored the last 12 points of the half and entered halftime down just three (32-29).
LC opened another large lead in the second half (59-46) at the 6:40 mark before the Eagles rallied again. BC cut the advantage to two at 64-62 after a pair of free throws from Tavis Stapleton. Xavier Parham made one free throw to put LC ahead three with 29 seconds left and following a pair of missed free throws by the Eagles, Chillemi hit one of two from the charity stripe to give LC the final four-point lead.
Senior guard Tucker Lucas finished with 11 points, while senior forward Nate Campbell grabbed a game-best 10 rebounds and had seven points. Junior guard Brandan Connor tallied nine points, six rebounds, five steals and two blocked shots. The Hornet defense forced 24 turnovers.
Aaron Adams led Bridgewater (5-16/2-10 ODAC) with 14 points and five rebounds. Ed Reddick and Matthew Hunter each scored 11 points and combined for 10 rebounds.
The Hornets (13-9/7-6) travel to Randolph College Wednesday night for another ODAC contest at 7 p.m.
