Lynchburg Women's Basketball Wins Third-Straight, Defeats Hollins 69-53
ROANOKE, VA – Using a balanced attack, the Lynchburg College women's basketball team defeated Hollins University 69-53 on Saturday afternoon in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) action, extending the Hornets winning streak to three games.
Freshman Shannon Allan led the Hornets with 16 points and eight rebounds, while dishing out four assists. Sophomore Roslyn Alexander scored 14 points while snagging 11 defensive rebounds. Junior Shea Kelley and senior Carly Greenlief each added 11 points in the contest.
LC scored the first bucket of the game off a jumper from Allan and never relinquished the lead. At the 16:42 mark of the first half with LC leading 8-5, sophomore Caleigh Patterson hit a layup which helped Lynchburg began a crucial 10-point run.
Lynchburg pushed the advantage to 22 (28-6) at the 8:01 mark of the first half. Hollins battled back at the end of the frame, yet LC led 36-22 at halftime.
Throughout the second half, the Hornets maintained a double-digit lead over HU, eventually defeating Hollins 69-53.
LC outdueled HU on the glass, grabbing 49 rebounds compared to 37 for Hollins.
Jasmine Greene led Hollins (8-12/5-10 ODAC) with 23 points and nine rebounds while Chanci Wright added seven points and five boards.
Lynchburg (7-13/6-9 ODAC) picked up another big ODAC victory, remaining just a game behind Hollins and Washington & Lee University in the conference standings with five games to play.
LC heads to Virginia Wesleyan College on Tuesday night at 7 p.m.
