#13 Lynchburg Claims Victory over Vixens 11-0 Tuesday Night
LYNCHBURG, VA – The 13th-ranked Lynchburg College women's soccer team used a consistent scoring effort to defeat Sweet Briar College 11-0 Tuesday night in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) action.
Sweet Briar fought hard in the early minutes, holding the Hornets at bay to begin the game. Jade Woll got Lynchburg on the board at 4:28 when she put away a blocked shot off the foot of Angela Bosco.
Jessie Gonzalez put the second goal on the board nearly four minutes later, taking the ball in for an unassisted attempt. Woll then added another score when her corner kick bent towards the goal. A Vixen defender tried to clear it, but due to the spin of the ball, could not keep it from becoming the third Hornet tally.
Dana Nelsen, Marina Clark, Daisy Thomas, Morgan Singer, and Nicole Kopsidas rounded out the scoring in the first half to stake Lynchburg an 8-0 advantage heading into the final 45 minutes.
The Hornets added three more goals in the second half as Dessi Dupuy, Victoria Czenczek, and Singer all found the back of the net. Mary Beier had two assists on the evening as Caitlyn Dodd, Jade Woll, and Erin Benson each had one to go with Bosco's from the first half.
Lynchburg outshot the Vixens 41-0 while maintaining a 13-0 corner kick advantage.
Katie Tillson had 16 saves while playing the whole match in goal for Sweet Briar (3-9-1/1-9). Karsen Schottleutner, Tess Frelick, and Brooke Thompson all saw time in net for the Hornets.
Lynchburg (16-1/10-0) travels to Washington & Lee University (13-1-1/9-0) Saturday at 11 a.m. for an ODAC matchup of undefeated rivals in conference play.
