Va. Wesleyan Defeats LC Women 70-52

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA - The Virginia Wesleyan College women's basketball team opened an early 32-10 lead and never looked back in a 70-52 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) victory over visiting Lynchburg College. 

The Marlin defense allowed just 10 points in the first 17 minutes of the game and held LC to just 19 percent shooting (4-21) in the first half. The Hornets rallied to cut the lead to 59-48 with 4:27 remaining, but could get no closer.

Sophomore forward Chaney Forbush grabbed 15 rebounds to tie for the game high, and also added 10 points and two blocked shots. Fellow sophomore Sammi Goldsmith had 13 points and a team-high five assists, while freshman Charmaine Hairston came off the bench to net a team-high 15 points. Shannon Allan was the fourth Hornet in double figures with 10. 

Andrea Paphites scored a game-high 22 points for Virginia Wesleyan (4-1 overall; 2-0 ODAC) and also contributed six rebounds, six assists and three steals. Brittany Glasco posted 18 points and 15 rebounds. 

Lynchburg (2-3/1-1) travels to Methodist University next Tuesday for a non-conference game at 7 p.m.
