Lynchburg Men Survive in Lexington, Escape with 71-66 Victory

LEXINGTON, VA – The Lynchburg College men's basketball team overcame a five-point second-half deficit to sneak past Washington and Lee University, 71-66, Saturday afternoon in Old Dominion Athletic Conference action.

The Hornets led 32-28 at halftime, but the Generals came out on a 13-4 run that spanned the first four minutes of the second half. The drive was capped off by five-straight points from Andrew Franz as W&L assumed a 41-36 lead.

Omar Kemp made a pair of jumpers on the next two possessions to get it back within a point, but the Generals would continue to maintain a slim advantage until the final eight minutes.

Trailing 56-51 following a layup by Drew Kimberly, the Hornets got two points from Alex Graves. Lyndon White stole the ball from Franz on the next General possession and found Zack Burnett for the game-tying three-pointer. A layup by Gary Boone II and another from Graves extended the Hornet lead to 60-56 to finish off the 9-0 run. LC would lead the rest of the way.

Graves and Burnett led a balanced LC attack with 13 points each. All of Graves' points came in the second half. Boone added 10 points and five boards to go with five rebounds from Graves. Manny Hernandez, the Hornets' leading scorer, was held to one point, but contributed in a big way with a career-high four assists while leading the team with seven boards.

Kimberly led the Generals (5-10/2-4) with 18 points and eight rebounds. Franz finished with 12 points while Patrick O'Connor contributed seven points and six boards.

Lynchburg (11-4/4-2) travels to Randolph College (9-6/3-3) in an ODAC crosstown rivalry Wednesday at 7 p.m. in an ODAC contest.
