Arnold's Career High can't Overcome Hot Shooting of Marymount

ARLINGTON, VA—The Lynchburg College men's basketball team could not overcome an early scoring run by Marymount University as the Saints shot over 50% for the game to down the Hornets, 102-89, Thursday in non-conference action.

The Saints jumped out to a 13-2 start over the first 3:44 of the game. Lynchburg recovered with a 10-0 run to cut the lead to one point, 13-12 with 13:41 remaining but that was the closest the Hornets would get to leading.

Daniel Rowe contributed six points during the run while Zack Burnett and Omar Kemp scored two each.

A 3-pointer by Reed Scott and layup from Michael Anderson pushed the Saint lead back to six, 18-12.

Having scored eight or more points in five straight contests, Austen Arnold had another consistent game for the Hornets, netting a career-high 22 points to go with a six rebounds. It was the second time in his career that he has topped the 20-point plateau and first this season.

Rowe finished with 10 points, while Gary Boone II and Stephen Booker each contributed eight. Lyndon White had a balanced line of eight points, four assists, and a career-high 10 rebounds.

Manny Hernandez, dealing with a pressing opposition all game, overcame the Saint defense to go 2-for-2 down the stretch to get Lynchburg back within single digits, 87-79, with 2:21 remaining, but Marymount made enough free throws to close out the game.

Hernandez finished with 16 points, giving him double-figures in five-straight contests and nine of the last ten games.

Lynchburg, as a team, shot 43.1% for the game, although just 4-for-17 (23.5%) from behind the arc.

Jesse Konadu led Marymount (8-2) with 25 points and five rebounds while Antonio Rouse contributed 22 points. Scott joined the Saints in double-figures with 16 points and eight boards.

Lynchburg (8-3) returns home Monday to face Virginia University of Lynchburg in a non-conference matchup at 7 p.m.
