Hornets take down Hill City Rival 3-0

LYNCHBURG, VA – The Lynchburg College men's soccer team scored one goal in the first half and added two in the second to defeat its Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) and crosstown rival Randolph College 3-0 on Tuesday night.

Randolph controlled the early minutes of the game, earning a corner kick and sending two shots at the Hornets net.  The first sailed wide, with the second being blocked.   LC went on the offensive soon after, as Luke Moore and Brandon Webster missed the framework with their attempts.  At 26:10, RC had another shot blocked on its way in before the Hornets took over.  The best opportunity came for Lynchburg in the 34th minute, as Josh Hinkle got his head on a corner kick from Tim Clancy, which was sent off the line by WildCat defender Coulton Watson.

Then in the 38th minute, Collin Kashmer headed in a throw in by Bryan Hall to give LC the 1-0 lead.  The Hornets kept on the pressure as Ben Grossfuss nearly doubled the lead later in the half, but Lynchburg would settle for the 1-0 lead at the half.

In the second half, Lynchburg stayed on the offensive.  The Hornets doubled their lead in the 62nd minute, as Daniel Jobrack sent a cross in from the left side that was headed home perfectly by Clancy.  Shortly after, Corey Budka was forced into making his first save of the game, but did so cleanly.    Then at 73:15, after a missed clear, Fredy Flores took a shot from 10 yards out that ended up in the back of the net.  It would be the final tally of the night for either team.

Brian Anderson registered two shots on goal for the WildCats (7-6-4 overall, 4-4-3 ODAC).  The statistics proved to be very even, with the Hornets holding a slim advantage in corners and shots on goal (plus-one for both).  The biggest difference came in saves, as Budka and the Hornets stopped four shots,  all coming in the second half.

Lynchburg (11-7, 8-3) will find out its final ODAC tournament position on Wednesday night.  At the worst, LC will earn the #3 seed and host a quarterfinal on Saturday, with an opponent and time to be determined.
