Lynchburg Wins Battle of the Hornets 4-0
LYNCHBURG, VA – The Lynchburg College men's soccer team scored two goals in each half to defeat Shenandoah University on Saturday night. The Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) game matched teams nicknamed the Hornets, with LC prevailing 4-0.
LC wasted no time starting their attack, notching five shots in the first 13 minutes. Shenandoah goalie Francisco Nolasco saved three of them, but after making the third stop, Fredy Flores knocked in the rebound to give Lynchburg the 1-0 lead. SU tried to gain momentum afterwards, but Sam Cannon made two saves and another shot was stopped by a Lynchburg defender.
After making two substitutions, Lynchburg went back on the offensive. In the 31st minute, Luke Moore added to the lead, scoring his fourth goal of the year. Shots on net were exchanged between the teams before the intermission, but LC held onto the 2-0 advantage at the break.
LC continued to control the game after the break and in the 62nd minute, Moore completed his brace off an assist from Flores. Ben Grossfuss sealed the game for Lynchburg after scoring in the 77th minute, finishing a pass from David Yates.
Nolasco made six total saves for SU (3-8 overall, 0-4 ODAC). His counterparts Sam Cannon and Scott Zaring combined for seven saves in the shutout. Lynchburg outshot Shenandoah 24 to 14, while both teams earned four corners.
LC (6-4, 3-1) will go on the road next week for two games. The first one will be at Guilford College on Wednesday night, with the ODAC matchup beginning at 7 p.m.
