Randolph-Macon Men Escape with 53-52 win over LC

ASHLAND, VA – The Lynchburg College men's basketball team fell just short Saturday 53-52 in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) game at Randolph-Macon College, the Hornets first loss of the 2014-15 season.

LC led 30-23 at intermission, but the Yellow Jackets started the second half on a 9-0 run to take a 32-30 lead. The game was tight the remainder of the way, with neither team being able to open more than a five-point edge.

The Hornets re-took the lead 47-45 with 8:39 remaining, but the home defense allowed just five more LC points. R-MC rallied to assume a five-point edge 52-47, and held the advantage on the scoreboard the rest of the way. Junior forward Alex Graves scored on a feed from Lyndon White with 34 seconds on the game clock to bring LC with one at 53-52. After a Hornet foul, Randolph-Macon missed the front end of a one-and-one free throw opportunity to give Lynchburg a chance to win the game in the final seconds, but a 15-foot jumper with three seconds left fell short.

Graves scored a game-high 20 points on 9-of-12 shooting and also grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds with four assists. Zack Burnett posted eight points, six assists and five rebounds. A.J. Hamilton scored nine points off the bench with three steals.

No Yellow Jacket reached double figures in scoring. Connor Sullivan had eight points and six rebounds while Chris Hamilton and Michael Taylor each had eight points as well. RMC (5-2/2-0 ODAC) forced 21 Hornet turnovers.

Lynchburg (6-1/1-1 ODAC) hosts Marymount University next Tuesday, December 16 at 4 p.m. in non-conference action.
