LC Men's Lacrosse Wins Home Opener 8-5 over F&M

LYNCHBURG, VA – The 11th-ranked Lynchburg College men's lacrosse team allowed just one goal in the second half Saturday to defeat visiting Franklin & Marshall College 8-5 in non-conference play.

The Diplomats scored the only two goals of the first period, both assisted by Michael Bossidy. The LC offense got untracked midway through the second quarter with three goals in a two-minute span. Campbell Armstrong found the back of the net at 8:37, and Bobby Distler won the ensuing face-off and fed Aaron Murphy for a tally five seconds after Armstrong's goal. Todd Galvin made the score 3-2 on a pass from Murphy, but F&M answered with a score from Bossidy. Each team scored once before intermission and the contest was tied at four heading into the break.

The Hornets quickly took over the game in the third period. Galvin and Armstrong pushed the lead to 6-4 in the first two minutes after halftime, and Rob Arnold and Distler scored at 9:47 and 9:40 to make the score 8-4 LC. Tommy Wenk cut the gap to three with an F&M tally at 2:42 of the third, and neither team would score in the last 17:42 of game action.

Distler won 11 of his 15 face-off opportunities and had a goal and an assist. Murphy posted a goal and three assists and Galvin, Armstrong and Arnold each had two tallies. Chris Hower had an assist and Eric Lombardo forced five turnovers, while Jon Gill caused three. Adam Davey made nine saves.

Bossidy had one goal and two assists for Franklin & Marshall (1-2). Wenk had a goal and an assist, Will Ballantyne, Philip Gamble and Jamie McCulloch each scored for the Diplomats. Cameron Setian made seven stops.

The Hornets (1-1) will square off with Cabrini College next Saturday in Washington D.C. (at Georgetown University) at 3 p.m.
