HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA – Freshman guard Zack Burnett nailed a three-pointer with six seconds on the clock to give the Lynchburg College men's basketball team an 86-84 victory at Hampden-Sydney College Wednesday in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play.
H-SC led 44-42 at intermission and held a 57-54 edge after a dunk by Khobi Williamson at the 14:24 mark. A 16-3 LC run, led by three three-pointers from Burnett, put the Hornets up 70-60 with 10 minutes left.
The Tigers clawed back to take a 76-75 lead with four minutes on the game clock before Burnett stroked a two-point jumper and another three-pointer to give LC a four-point lead. Two H-SC layups tied the score, but Daniel Rowe hit a trifecta with just two minutes remaining to put Lynchburg ahead 83-80.
A JaVonte Reddick three-pointer tied the game for the seventh time, and the Tigers made one of two free-throws with 35 seconds left. H-SC controlled the rebound, but Rowe swiped the ball to give LC a chance for the win. After two misses in the paint, LC snared the rebound and called timeout with eight ticks on the clock. Burnett received the in-bounds pass on the left wing and nailed a contested fade-away three-pointer to put the Hornets ahead 86-84. The Tigers couldn't convert on a lay-up attempt at the buzzer to force overtime.
