Zack Burnett Scores Career-High 27 as LC Men Outlast W&L 69-62
LYNCHBURG, VA – Sophomore guard Zack Burnett scored a career-high 27 points Saturday to lead the Lynchburg College men's basketball team to a 69-62 victory over visiting Washington & Lee University in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) game.
Burnett eclipsed his previous top mark of 25 points set at Bridgewater College last January. It was his first 20-point game of the season, but he has scored 18 or more four times.
The contest was tied at 24 with 7:40 left in the first half, and Lynchburg used an 8-0 run to take a 32-24 advantage. The Hornets held onto a 34-29 lead at the half.
The Hornets led by small margins the entire second half, and had a 45-41 edge with 8:38 remaining. A 7-0 run put Lynchburg ahead by double figures, capped by a long Burnett three-pointer. The Generals cut the lead to four late, but LC sealed the game from the free-throw stripe.Burnett hit 10-of-17 shots, including three three-pointers.
Alex Graves tallied a double-double with 13 points and a game-high 10 rebounds with two blocked shots. Daniel Rowe hit a pair of three pointers and finished with eight points while Omar Kemp contributed eight points and six rebounds.
Clayton Martha kept Washington & Lee (5-10/2-4 ODAC) in the game with 23 points and five rebounds, sinking 13 of his 14 free-throw attempts. Stephen Himmelberg added 12 points.
The Hornets (10-5/3-3 ODAC) host Hampden-Sydney College Wednesday evening in another ODAC matchup.###
