Chaney Forbush Leads LC Women to 73-62 Victory at R-MC
ASHLAND, VA – Junior forward Chaney Forbush posted 22 points and 10 rebounds Saturday afternoon to lead the Lynchburg College women's basketball team to a 73-62 win at Randolph-Macon College in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play. It was an important game in the conference standings, bringing the Hornets and Yellow Jackets into a tie for second place with identical 8-2 records, one game behind frontrunner Eastern Mennonite University (9-1).
The game was tied at two before Forbush scored nine-straight points, followed by two baskets from Sammi Goldsmith to put LC ahead 15-2 six minutes in. The Hornets extended the advantage to 30-8 with nine minutes remaining in the first half, their biggest lead of the game. R-MC trimmed the edge to 37-24 at intermission.
Randolph-Macon cut the advantage to five twice in the second half, the last at the 5:47 mark (58-53). A 9-0 LC run, fueled by four baskets in the paint and five points from Forbush put the game out of reach, 67-53, with just three minutes to play. The Lynchburg defense allowed just one field goal the final 5:47.
Forbush scored 17 of her team-high point total in the first half, and shot 8-of-13 on the afternoon. Goldsmith scored 11 points and added eight assists, six rebounds and two blocked shots. Olivia DeFrancesco added 14 points, six rebounds and four steals and Shannon Allan finished with nine points and six rebounds.
Katie Anderson paced the Yellow Jackets (15-3) with game highs of 28 points and 12 rebounds. Hannah Livermon tallied 13 points.
The Hornets (13-6) host Hollins University Tuesday night at 7 p.m. in more ODAC action. It is LC's "Blackout Game", and all fans are encouraged to wear black to the game.
