LC Women's Basketball Rolls to 91-37 Season-Opening Win at William Peace
RALEIGH, NC – The defense fueled a 91-37 victory for the Lynchburg College women's basketball team Friday evening at William Peace University in the season opener for both teams.
The LC defense forced 33 turnovers and harassed the Pacers into just 29 percent shooting from the floor (15-51). The Hornet offense was much more efficient than their hosts, hitting an even 50 percent from the field (32-64) with 32 trips to the free-throw line.
The Hornets jumped out to a 14-2 lead in the first seven minutes of play and held a comfortable double figure cushion the remainder of the way.
Junior Charmaine Hairston led four LC double-digit scorers with a game-high 14 points and added five rebounds and three steals. Freshmen Molly Shepherd and Madison Steele each had 13 points and sophomore Caroline Naumann posted 12 points. Sammi Goldsmith contributed across the board with seven points, eight assists, four steals and four rebounds while junior Sarah Coronel added seven assists and a team-best six boards. A total of 11 Hornets scored.
Tenae McKinzie posted 11 points, five rebounds and four assists for William Peace.
Lynchburg (1-0) hosts the University of Mary Washington Monday at 5 p.m. in Turner Gym.
