CNU Men's Basketball Defeats LC 72-56
NEWPORT NEWS, VA – The Christopher Newport University men's basketball team forced Lynchburg College into just 29 percent shooting in a 72-56 victory over the Hornets Sunday afternoon in non-conference play.
The Captains jumped out to an early 10-4 lead and soon were ahead by double figures. The advantage lengthened to 35-21 at halftime.
Lynchburg cut the lead to 12 on two occasions in the second half but could get no closer.
Senior forward Alex Graves posted 16 points, 11 rebounds and three assists for LC, earning eight trips to the free-throw line. Austen Arnold totaled 12 points before being forced to the bench with five fouls and Daniel Rowe had 11 points and five rebounds. Lyndon White snared eight boards.
Tim Daly paced CNU (1-0) with 13 points, seven rebounds and four assists. Aaron McFarland added 12 points and Kevin Regimbal contributed 10.
Lynchburg shot just 17-59 overall for the game and 4-of-20 (20%) from beyond the three-point arc.
The Hornets (1-1) host the University of Mary Washington Wednesday at 7 p.m. in a non-conference game.
