Denison Tops LC Women 59-36

GREENSBORO, NC – The Denison College women's basketball team defeated Lynchburg College 59-36 Sunday afternoon in the Guilford College Classic.

The Hornets led through most of the first period, with a five-point edge midway through. The Big Red scored the last seven points of the quarter to assume a 16-13 advantage, and extended the lead to double figures in the second period. Denison led 33-18 at intermission and LC could get no closer.

Charmaine Hairston, Chaney Forbush and Olivia DeFrancesco each had eight points for the Hornets, while Sarah Coronel netted five. The Big Red defense held LC to just 24 percent shooting (14-59) on the day and 1-of-12 from three-point range. The Hornets forced 20 turnovers.

Kellie Arter posted a game-high 19 points for Denison (3-2) and Jordan Holmes tallied 17 points and 15 rebounds. Emily Krump added 10 points and six caroms.

The Hornets (2-2) open Old Dominion Athletic Conference play Tuesday, traveling to Eastern Mennonite University for a 7 p.m. start.
