Hornet Men Score 80-71 Non-Conference Win over Ferrum
LYNCHBURG, VA – The Lynchburg College men's basketball team grinded out an 80-71 victory Tuesday afternoon over visiting Ferrum College in non-conference play.
The game was tied at 16 apiece after nine minutes of play, but LC used a 10-0 run to forge a 26-16 edge. The Panthers answered back with six-straight points and finished the half behind by two (34-32).
Ferrum went ahead 40-36 after an 8-2 run to start the second half. LC responded, going ahead 48-46 with 14 minutes left, and netted 11 unanswered points to take a 59-46 advantage. The Hornets led the rest of the way, but FC climbed back to trail only 64-62 with 4:35 remaining on the game clock. Lynchburg sealed the game from the free-throw line, scoring 10 of its final 16 points from the charity stripe.
The Hornets had six players in double figures, with Alex Graves, Zack Burnett and Daniel Rowe each with 12. A.J. Hamilton and Jay Allen posted 11 and Omar Kemp added 10. Graves snared a game-high 10 rebounds to go with four blocked shots, Hamilton grabbed eight boards and Kemp added six as LC out-rebounded Ferrum 45-25.
Marvin Wilson paced Ferrum (2-2) with a game-best 20 points, drilling 5-of-6 from three-point range. Alek Ayer tallied 16 points with three steals. The Panther defense forced 20 LC turnovers.
The Hornets (3-1) open the Old Dominion Athletic Conference season Saturday at Bridgewater College at 2 p.m.
