Bridgewater Men Upset Hornets 81-73 in Overtime
BRIDGEWATER, VA – The Bridgewater College men's basketball team upset Lynchburg College 81-73 in overtime In Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play Saturday. The Hornets competed with two starters sidelined by injury, and two other starters and one reserve fouled out.
The Hornets forged a 33-24 halftime lead, but the Eagles tied the game at 37 following a 13-4 run. The game remained tight the rest of the way.
The contest was tied at 65 in the closing minute and each team turned the ball over with an opportunity to take the lead. The Eagles had a chance to win the game with six seconds left, but senior Alex Graves rejected the shot attempt to force overtime.
Bridgewater out-scored LC 10-3 to open the five-minute overtime period to go ahead 75-68. The Eagles made all six of their free throws attempts in the final 21 seconds to seal the game.
Graves scored a game-high 24 points to go with 10 rebounds and three blocked shots before fouling out. Zack Burnett posted 12 points, Jay Allen had 10 with five rebounds and Omar Kemp tallied nine points and six boards.
Jesse Case drilled five three-pointers to finish with a team-best 22 for Bridgewater (2-3/1-0 ODAC). Cameron Thurston grabbed a game-high 16 rebounds and scored 14 points and Trenton Ray posted 19 points. BC hit 12-of-25 (48%) from beyond the three-point arc to compensate for capitalizing on just 21-of-40 (52%) from the free-throw line.
The Hornets (3-2/0-1) host Randolph-Macon College Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in more conference play.
