Hornet MBB Defeats Averett 77-60
DANVILLE, VA – The defense led the way Monday evening as the Lynchburg College men's basketball team defeated Averett University 77-60 in non-conference action.
The Hornets forced the Cougars into under 30 percent shooting for the game (20-68) with 18 turnovers, while LC converted 44 percent of its field-goal attempts (28-64).
The contest was tied at six all in the early going, but a 20-3 run from Lynchburg over the next seven minutes gave the Hornets a 26-9 lead with 8:27 left in the first half.
AU cut the edge to 37-29 at intermission and 44-42 with 12 minutes remaining in the game. A 15-0 Hornet run, fueled by two three-pointers each from Sammy Hooper and A.J. Hamilton, gave Lynchburg a 59-42 lead and put the game away.
Hamilton scored a game-high 17 points, sinking 5-of-6 field goal attempts and both three pointers. Alex Graves tallied 13 points, 11 rebounds and four steals and Zack Burnett had 12 points. Hooper had 11 points for the second-straight game and six rebounds and Lyndon White contributed six points, seven rebounds and four assists.
Devontae Pannell scored a game-high 12 points for Averett (7-2). Darin Ketner put in 11 points and five rebounds in just 10 minutes of play and Carter Jones posted 10 points and a game-high 11 rebounds.
Lynchburg (6-3) travels to Daytona Beach, FL for a pair of games December 20-21.
