Alex Graves Breaks 1,000 Point Barrier as LC Men Defeat LaGrange 87-83
DAYTONA BEACH, FL – Lynchburg College senior forward Alex Graves broke the 1,000 point mark for his career Sunday evening as the Hornets defeated LaGrange College (GA) 87-83 in the Daytona Beach Shootout.
Graves finished with 10 points and a game-high 11 rebounds for the contest and becomes the 22nd member of the 1,000-point club in LC men's basketball history. He now has 1,002 in his Hornet tenure and reached the milestone from the free-throw line with 8:18 left to play.
Lynchburg trailed by as many as 11 in the first half and LaGrange went into intermission ahead 39-33.
The Panthers scored the first four points of the second half and went ahead 10 after a dunk from Mike White. Following a Hornet timeout, LC used an 18-6 run to take a 51-49 lead with 14 minutes remaining. LaGrange trailed 84-80 in the closing seconds and an A.J. Hamilton steal and lay-up with just nine ticks left seemed to seal the victory. But Mark Wagner drilled a three-pointer to make it a one-possession game and Lynchburg made one-of-two free throws with four seconds left to put the game out of reach.
Junior guard Zack Burnett had 20 points and eight rebounds, and Lyndon White posted 12 points and 10 caroms. Jay Allen also had 12 points and Daniel Rowe connected on three three-point baskets and ended with 11. Bobby Ford scored nine points and Hamilton finished the night with eight.
Wagner poured in a game-high 33 points for LaGrange (7-2), sinking 5-of-8 three-point shots. Justyn Olson added 23 points, six rebounds and four assists.
The Hornets (7-3) face Berry College Monday at 6 p.m. in Daytona Beach.
