LC Women Roll to 74-43 win over Virginia Wesleyan
LYNCHBURG, VA – The Lynchburg College women's basketball team forced visiting Virginia Wesleyan College into just 22 percent shooting Saturday afternoon in a 74-43 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) victory. The game was a rematch of the 2014-15 conference championship game, which the Marlins won 59-57.
The Hornets jumped out to a big lead early in the contest, forging a 20-3 edge towards the end of the first period. LC extended the advantage to 21 (38-17) at halftime and held at least a 20-point lead the remainder of the game.
Senior Chaney Forbush scored a game-high 15 points to go along with nine rebounds and three blocked shots. Senior point guard Sammi Goldsmith facilitated the Hornet offense (46% shooting as a team) with 10 assists, and added 11 rebounds and five points. Sophomore forward Caroline Naumann had a double-double with 11 points and 13 rebounds while junior Charmaine Hairston added 14 points. Sarah Coronel posted 10 points, six rebounds, three assists and two steals. The Hornets held a commanding 63-36 rebounding advantage. Goldsmith tied her own school record for most assists in a game.
Jayla Harris scored a game-high 12 points for Virginia Wesleyan (2-5/0-2 ODAC). Kelly Jones added nine points and seven rebounds and Naeemah Morris had eight rebounds, five points and four blocked shots. The Marlins were held to just 16-of-71 shooting from the floor and 1-of-17 from three-point distance (6%).
The Hornets (6-2/2-0 ODAC) travel to Averett University December 14 for a non-conference game at 5 p.m.
