LC Men Defeat Guilford 81-64 with 14 Three-Pointers

LYNCHBURG, VA – The Lynchburg College men's basketball team tied a school record with 14 three pointers made Wednesday night in an 81-64 victory over Guilford College in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) contest. The win moves the Hornets into fifth place in the conference standings with one game to play.

The Hornets led 28-27 with 4:45 left in the first half, and rolled out to a 44-32 halftime edge after a 16-5 run. The two teams combined for 15 three pointers in the first half, with LC nailing nine.

Lynchburg opened a 16-point lead after back-to-back triples from A.J. Hamilton and Sammy Hooper with 12:16 remaining. The Quakers trimmed the advantage to only seven points twice but could get no closer.

Five Hornets scored in double figures, with Alex Graves leading with 13 points. Austen Arnold, Lyndon White, Daniel Rowe and Hooper all posted 12 points. Arnold grabbed a team-high nine rebounds, Rowe corralled eight boards and White handed out five assists. Hamilton and Zack Burnett each scored nine points. Lynchburg hit 14 of its 30 three-pointers (47%).

Matt McCarthy posted 16 points, six rebounds, five assists and four steals for the Quakers (17-7/10-5 ODAC). Jonny Rice had a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Trevor Hyatt and Will Freeman each posted 10 points.

The Hornets (15-9/8-7 ODAC) travel to Bridgewater College Saturday for an ODAC contest at 2 p.m. It is the last regular season game of the season, with the conference tournament starting next week.
