#10 Hornets Rally from Five-Goal Deficit but Fall 15-13 at #6 Endicott


BEVERLY, MA - The 10th-ranked Lynchburg College men's lacrosse team rallied from five goals behind Tuesday afternoon but eventually fell 15-13 at #6 Endicott College (MA). 

The Hornets led 11-10 in the fourth quarter, but the Gulls rattled off the next three tallies to take a 13-11 edge with under six minutes to play. Austin Stewart fired in his sixth goal of the game to cut the advantage to one, but Endicott goals from Kyle Weber and Colin Bannon extended the lead to 15-12 with two minutes remaining. Dane Angell scored for Lynchburg with 35 ticks left but Endicott won the ensuing face-off and ran out the clock.

Endicott held leads of 5-0 in the first quarter and 9-4 midway through the third stanza before Stewart erupted. The junior attack scored four-straight times in a 2:31 span and Endicott took just a one-goal lead into the final period. Chris Cornelius found the back of the net twice in the first four minutes of the fourth to tie the game at 10 all and Aaron Murphy gave the Hornets their 11-10 lead. 

Stewart finished with six goals and an assist, while Murphy, Cornelius and Todd Galvin each scored twice. Galvin also contributed an assist, as did Chris Hower and Ryan Kardux. Junior Danny Czerkawski won 17 of his 28 face-off opportunities and scooped a team-high seven ground balls. Hunter Thompson corralled six ground balls and forced two turnovers and Hower and Galvin each had five ground balls.

Bannon posted five goals and three assists for Endicott (5-0), and Weber also ended with five scores. Cameron Bell made 13 saves in net to help allow his team pick up the victory despite being out-shot 43-37.

The Hornets (2-2) travel to Guilford College Saturday for both teams Old Dominion Athletic Conference opener at 5 p.m.
