#5 LC Men's Lacrosse defeats Franklin & Marshall 11-8
LANCASTER, PA – The fifth-ranked Lynchburg College lacrosse team used a strong second half to outlast Franklin & Marshall College 11-8 in non-conference action Wednesday afternoon.
F&M outscored LC 3-0 in the first period, with two goals by Sean Rogers. The Hornets rattled off the first four tallies of the second period and the teams exchanged two goals each as Lynchburg entered intermission ahead 6-5.
The Diplomats regained control by netting the first three goals after the break, but four-straight Hornet scores gave the visitors a 10-8 lead with 11 minutes left in the game. Austin Stewart netted his fifth goal of the game late to seal the victory.
Todd Galvin posted two goals and an assist while Aaron Murphy also had two scores. Chris Cornelius tallied a goal and two assists while Dane Angell also found the back of the net. Chris Hower and Cullan Ganley each had an assist.
Bobby Distler gave LC a huge possession advantage by winning 18 of the game's 22 face-offs. Eric Lombardo scooped four ground balls and caused two turnovers, and Chris Hawley made seven saves in net to record the victory. LC was 4-of-6 in man-up situations and held the Diplomats scoreless in their four attempts.
Stewart raises his season goal total to 64, just three shy of tying the 21-year-old team record for scores in a season.
Chad Gamble and Ben Ross each had two goals and an assist for F&M (6-7).
The Hornets (12-2) host Hampden-Sydney College Saturday at 7 p.m. in a game for first place in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC). The program's 12 seniors will be honored in a pre-game ceremony.
