#5 LC Men's Lax Defeats Hampden-Sydney 17-7 on Senior Night

LYNCHBURG, VA – The fifth-ranked Lynchburg College men's lacrosse team defeated Hampden-Sydney College 17-7 Saturday night in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) match-up. LC junior attack Austin Stewart had three goals to tie the school record for goals in a season with 67, matching Mike Marchetti (1994).

The Hornets jumped on the Tigers early, scoring the first five goals of the game with five different goal scorers. H-SC netted three of the next five goals and LC finished the first period ahead 7-3.

LC began the second period with another 5-0 run, and again with five different goal scorers to take a 12-3 advantage. The Tigers scored a late tally to cut the lead to 12-4 at intermission.

The scoring in the second half slowed down, but with five of the six goals in the third period, LC put the game out of reach. Stewart scored his record-tying tally with six seconds left in the third period. H-SC netted the only two goals of the fourth period.

Aaron Murphy had three goals and three assists, and Colin McGuire and Chris Cornelius had two goals and an assist each. Sean Ahearn also scored twice and Todd Galvin had a goal with three helpers. Cole Barrett, Dane Angell, Daniel Owens and Ryan Kardux each had a goal.

Bobby Distler won 13 of his 23 face-off chances, and Chris Hower had five ground balls. Chris Hawley made five saves to record his 13th win of the season and also scooped five ground balls.

Jake Koferl and Corey Mavromatis scored twice for Hampden-Sydney (8-5/5-2 ODAC). Thomas Armstrong added a goal and two assists.

Lynchburg was nearly perfect in man-up opportunities, scoring on six of seven chances. LC outshot the Tigers 52-20.

The Hornets (13-2/7-0 ODAC) travel to Randolph-Macon College Wednesday for another ODAC contest at 7 p.m.
