Huge First Quarter Carries No. 5 Hornets to 18-4 Victory over Bridgewater

BRIDGEWATER, VA – The No. 5-ranked Lynchburg College men's lacrosse team outscored Bridgewater College 10-1 in the first quarter, cruising the rest of the way for an 18-4 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) victory Friday night.

Matthew Arndt started the scoring on Friday night for the Eagles, notching an unassisted tally just over a minute into the game. That would be it for Bridgewater in the first however, as Lynchburg ran off 13-straight scores spanning the entire second quarter.

Austin Stewart continued his strong season by scoring four of LC's first five goals while Harrison Brennan contributed the other. Stewart finished with five scores in the game, all coming in the first quarter. Jacob Fuller added two in the initial period while Todd Galvin and Aaron Murphy added solo scores to join Brennan.

Sean Ahearn, Danny Czerkawski, and Matthew Baker scored in the second quarter to cap off the 13-goal spurt by the Hornets to take a 13-1 lead. Chris Voorhees added a second tally for Bridgewater with 17 seconds remaining until intermission but the Hornets maintained control.

Chris Hawley got the win in net for Lynchburg while Andrew Fawkes made five saves and CJ Santora, four, in relief. Murphy was the only Hornet with multiple assists, collecting two in a balanced effort. Eight Hornets had helpers on the evening while 10 found the back of the net for scores.

Andrew Buss made 15 saves for Bridgewater (4-8/0-4 ODAC).

No. 5 Lynchburg (8-2/4-0) continues its road trip with a top-10 battle with No. 6 Stevenson University (6-3) set to start at 7 p.m. on Saturday.
