Hornet Women Defeat Bridgewater 62-49
LYNCHBURG, VA – The Lynchburg College women's basketball team used a large first half run to create an early cushion and moved on to post a 62-49 win over visiting Bridgewater College Saturday in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) game.
The game was tied at nine each just three minutes into play as each offense got off to a quick start. The Hornets used a commanding 25-6 run over the next period and a half to forge a 34-15 lead with 3:33 remaining in the second quarter. The Eagles cut the advantage to 14 by intermission (36-22). Bridgewater kept the score close the rest of the way but was unable to draw closer than nine points in the second half.
Senior forward Chaney Forbush scored a game-high 16 points and added four rebounds and three steals for LC, hitting 6-of-9 field goal attempts. Junior guard Charmaine Hairston netted 13 points with five steals and junior guard Sarah Coronel contributed 10 points and eight rebounds. Sammi Goldsmith tallied seven points, eight rebounds and four assists and Caroline Naumann added nine points and six boards.
Three Bridgewater (7-7/3-3 ODAC) players reached double figures, including Cassidy Burkholder with 12 points and a game-high 11 rebounds. Jessica Lam also had 12 points and Briana Moore had 11 points.
The Hornets (13-2/6-0 ODAC) will put an 11-game winning streak on the line Tuesday at home against Emory & Henry College in more ODAC play at 7 p.m.
