Hornet Defense leads to 73-53 over Emory & Henry
LYNCHBURG, VA – The Lynchburg College men's basketball team used a great defensive effort Wednesday evening to defeat Emory & Henry College 73-53 in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) action.
LC limited the Wasps to just 30 percent shooting (17-56) on the evening and 21 percent (4-19) from three-point range. Comparably, the Hornets hit 47 percent (26-55) of their field-goal attempts.
Lynchburg jumped out to a 14-5 lead in the first eight minutes of play, but the Wasps got untracked to take a 24-23 edge with three minutes remaining in the half. The Hornets regained control with a 9-1 run and entered intermission ahead 32-25.
The Hornets led 45-36 at the 14-minute mark and used a 13-0 run to put the game away. Senior A.J. Hamilton scored seven of his game-high 15 points during the streak.
Senior Alex Graves netted 12 points and blocked a career-high seven shots for Lynchburg. Lyndon White had eight points, eight assists and six rebounds, and Zack Burnett also stuffed the stat sheet with seven points, a game-high eight rebounds, five assists and four steals. Austen Arnold posted nine points and added five rebounds while Jay Allen was perfect from the floor and had eight points.
Ryan Gravley led Emory & Henry (10-8/4-5 ODAC) with 14 points and five assists. Brandon Self had eight points and five caroms. Lynchburg held a 44-34 advantage in rebounding.
The Hornets (13-5/6-3 ODAC) host Eastern Mennonite University Saturday at 2 p.m. in more ODAC action.
