Emory & Henry Hangs on for 86-80 Victory over LC Men
EMORY, VA – The Emory & Henry College men's basketball team opened a 15-point second half lead Tuesday evening and hung on for an 86-80 victory over visiting Lynchburg College in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play.
The Hornets opened a 19-10 lead seven minutes after tip-off before the Wasps got untracked. A 10-0 E&H run put the hosts ahead temporarily and the advantage changed hands several times before halftime. Emory took a 43-37 edge into the intermission.
Emory & Henry forged its biggest lead of the game, 63-48, with 11 minutes remaining before Lynchburg charged back. A three-pointer by sophomore Bobby Ford cut the lead to just six with 1:18 on the game clock, but the Wasps sealed the game from the free-throw stripe.
Hornet junior guard Lyndon White posted his third-straight double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds, nailing all three of his three pointers, 5-of-6 overall from the floor and 7-of-9 from the free-throw line. Senior forward Alex Graves poured in a game-high 23 points, sinking 9-of-15 shots from the field with six rebounds. He has scored in double figures in each of LC's 12 games this season and eclipsed the 20-point mark four times. Zack Burnett scored nine points and Sammy Hooper netted seven.
The Wasps (7-5/1-2 ODAC) had five players in double figures, including John Shelor (16), Clif Conley (15) and Chase Branscomb (14). Aaron Ferguson scored eight points and snared a game-best 12 rebounds.
The Hornets (8-4/1-2 ODAC) travel to Washington & Lee University Saturday for more ODAC play at 2 p.m.
