Box Score Greensboro, N.C. -- Following a tough conference loss to Shenandoah this past weekend, the Lynchburg Volleyball team responded with a win against Guilford Wednesday night, 3-1 (25-21, 25-22, 19-25, 25-19).
Continuing her record breaking year, senior Jen Garrett set a career high for digs (27) and almost set a career high for kills (25), coming just one short. The senior outside hitter has now extended her lead in the conference to 57 kills, sitting at 389 after the victory.
Despite the score, the Hornets were in control of the match in the first two sets. Garrett registered 12 of her kills in the first two frames, including the set winning kill in the second set. Freshman Heaven Jarrell added five kills while junior Mesa Willis and sophomore Amelia Dalton contributed to the offense with four a piece.
The Quakers flipped a switch in the third set, rattling off 10 straight after Lynchburg won the first point. Both teams traded points for the remainder of the set and Guilford would stave off elimination as the match moved to a fourth set.
Lynchburg saw themselves down 11-7 in the fourth set but Dalton smashed a kill and set in motion a 10-1 run which put the Hornets up 17-12. As the Hornets inched closer to a victory the Quakers continually strung together points to stay close but at 24-19, freshman Sydney Frink finished off Guilford will a booming kill.
Junior Lynn Walsh finished the night with 31 assists while freshman Erin Farina added 18 more. Jarrell and Dalton combined for 18 kills while freshman Disa Haugsdahl now has 21 blocks in the last four matches after registering five in the win.
The ladies travel to the Hampton Roads area for a matchup with the Marlins of Virgnia Wesleyan this Friday at 6:30 p.m.
