Randolph Men Hang on for 61-58 Win Over Lynchburg
Lynchburg, VA – The Randolph College men's basketball team held Lynchburg College to 33.3% shooting in a 61-58 victory Wednesday night in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play.
The Wildcats (12-10, 6-7) led by as much as 16, due in large part to a 20-7 run in the final eight minutes of the first half resulting in a 35-21 advantage at the break.
The Hornets made a 19-4 run of their own early in the second half capped off by an Austen Arnold layup to tie the game at 42, but could not regain the lead the rest of the way. Lynchburg cut the lead to two in the final 13 seconds and had a chance to tie at the buzzer with a three-pointer, but couldn't convert.
Senior forward Alex Graves finished with a line of 17 points, six rebounds and four steals for Lynchburg, shooting 8-of-13 from the field on the night. Junior guard Zack Burnett posted a game-high 21 points and eight boards while senior Omar Kemp contributed eight points and a game-high 10 rebounds.
Zach Desgain and Josh Freund led the way for the Wildcats, each scoring a team-high 13 points in the victory. Evan Horn contributed 10 points in his 22 minutes off the bench for Randolph.
Despite out-rebounding the Wildcats 41-35, the Hornets shot just 20-60 from the floor and 7-23 (30.4%) from three point range.
Lynchburg (16-6/9-4) travels to Shenandoah University Saturday for another ODAC matchup at 2 p.m.
