#5 Salisbury Rallies for 14-11 win over Second-Ranked LC Men's Lacrosse

SALISBURY, MD – The fifth-ranked Salisbury University men's lacrosse team erased a four-goal first-half deficit to rally for a 14-11 victory Wednesday over #2 Lynchburg College in the season opener for the Hornets.

Lynchburg jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first six minutes of the first quarter, with two goals by senior attack Austin Stewart and one from senior Dane Angell. The Sea Gulls countered with three-straight goals of their own, from three different goal scorers, to tie the game late in the first period. Stewart recorded an early hat trick with 2:22 left in the first and Aaron Murphy found the back of the net to put LC ahead 5-3 to finish the first period.

Lynchburg pushed the advantage to 7-3 in the second quarter on tallies from Stewart and Chris Cornelius. SU put two scores in before intermission to cut the Hornets' lead to 7-5.

Salisbury tied the game at seven all early in the third quarter, but Angell put LC back ahead 8-7 with a man-up goal. Following another SU tally, goals from Cornelius, Stewart and Angell gave the Hornets an 11-8 edge heading into the final period.

The Sea Gulls dominated the final quarter, netting the game's last six goals, the first three from Carson Kalama.

Stewart finished with five goals, while Angell had three and Cornelius two. Murphy ended the day with a goal and two assists.

Thomas Cirillo had four goals and an assist for Salisbury. Nathan Blondino posted a goal and three assists.

Salisbury (2-0) held a 50-27 edge in shots and won 18 of the game's 27 face-offs.

The Hornets (0-1) open the home season Sunday, hosting Franklin & Marshall College at 1 p.m. on Shellenberger Field.
