Naumann and Forbush Post Double Doubles as LC Women Defeat W&L 71-57 in ODAC Semis
SALEM, VA – Sophomore forward Caroline Naumann and senior forward Chaney Forbush combined for 32 points, 25 rebounds and four blocks Saturday afternoon as the top-seeded Lynchburg College women's basketball team defeated #4 Washington & Lee University 71-57 in the semifinals of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Tournament.
Naumann tallied 16 points and grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds, sinking 7-of-13 shots from the floor. Forbush also had a double-double with 16 points, 11 rebounds and four blocks, doing damage from the free-throw stripe (8-10). Senior point guard Sammi Goldsmith played all 40 minutes and contributed 10 points, seven rebounds and three assists, and sophomore guard Olivia DeFrancesco hit a pair of three-pointers and finished with 12 points. Sarah Coronel had nine points.
LC closed out the first period on a 7-1 run to take a 25-16 lead. The Generals controlled the second quarter, out-scoring the Hornets 18-10 to pull within one at 35-34.
Lynchburg scored the first 10 points of the third period, four each from Forbush and Goldsmith, to take a 45-34 lead. The Hornets had a 51-42 edge after three periods, and pulled away in the fourth and final quarter.
Emily Perszyk scored a game-high 23 points for W&L (17-10), while Emma Redding had 11. The Hornets out-rebounded W&L 45-36 and forced the Generals into just 21 percent shooting the final 20 minutes.
Lynchburg (23-4) advances to its second-straight ODAC title game Sunday to face #2 Guilford College at the Salem Civic Center at 1 p.m.
