Murphy Scores Five but W&L Upsets LC 13-8
LYNCHBURG, VA – The 16th-ranked Lynchburg College men's lacrosse team got five goals from senior attack Aaron Murphy Saturday night, but it wasn't enough as Washington & Lee University upset the Hornets 13-8 in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play. It was the Hornets first loss to an ODAC opponent in nearly two years, dating back to April 5, 2014.
The Generals took control early, scoring the game's first five goals. Murphy found the back of the net midway through the second period and W&L held a 5-1 lead at intermission.
Washington & Lee opened a commanding 9-1 advantage in the third quarter before LC started to chip away. Evan Lombardo, Murphy and Austin Stewart scored before the close of the third quarter to cut the edge to 10-4.
The Hornets netted three of the first four goals of the fourth period, two from Murphy and the other by Lombardo, to get back within 11-7 with 7:07 left on the game clock. The Generals put the game out of reach with the next two goals.
Chris Cornelius had an assist for LC.
