#13 LC Men's Lacrosse Defeated 13-9 by #5 Gettysburg
LYNCHBURG, VA – Seniors Austin Stewart and Aaron Murphy each had hat tricks Saturday, but the 13th-ranked Lynchburg College lacrosse team fell 13-9 to #5 Gettysburg College in non-conference play.
The score was knotted at two all as the teams exchanged goals in the first 12 minutes of play. The Bullets ended the period with back-to-back scores to go ahead 4-2. LC senior Austin Stewart scored quickly in the second period, but Gettysburg netted the last four goals of the half to take an 8-3 lead at intermission.
The Hornets cut into the advantage by scoring three of the first four goals of the second half, with tallies from Colin McGuire, Stewart and Murphy to cut the lead to 9-6. The Bullets extended their lead to 12-6 with the last three goals of the third period.
Murphy and Dane Angell scored for Lynchburg to start off the fourth period, but LC could get no closer.
Murphy finished the afternoon with three goals and an assist, while Stewart also had a hat trick. Danny Czerkawski found the back of the net and Chris Cornelius and Evan Lombardo each ahd assists.
Tommy Heller had five goals and an assist for Gettysburg (2-1). Paul Werner posted three goals and two assists, and Mike Distler had two goals and an assist.
Chris Hawley made 18 saves for Lynchburg in net, and Czerkawski won 13-of-22 face-offs and had a team-best nine groundballs. Tim Brady made 10 stops for Gettysburg, while Chris Palladino caused three turnovers and scooped six ground balls.
Gettysburg out-shot LC 46-35.
The Hornets (1-3) open Old Dominion Athletic Conference play Saturday at home against Bridgewater College at 1 p.m.
