Hornet Men's Lax Rolls to 20-10 ODAC Quarterfinal Win over Va. Wesleyan
LYNCHBURG, VA – The fourth-seeded Lynchburg College men's lacrosse team rolled to a 20-10 victory over #5 Virginia Wesleyan College Tuesday evening in the quarterfinals of the 2016 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Championship Tournament.
Lynchburg moves on in the tournament to face top-seeded Roanoke College Saturday at 5:30 p.m. in Salem, VA in the tournament semifinals.
LC held a slim 3-2 lead midway through the first period before the Hornet offense exploded for eight of the game's next nine goals, and the Hornets entered halftime ahead 11-4.
Lynchburg put the game out of reach by out-scoring the Marlins 6-0 in the third period.
Hornet senior attack Austin Stewart netted a game-high five goals while fellow senior Aaron Murphy had four goals and two assists. Chris Cornelius posted a hat trick and Ryan Kardux had two scores. Dane Angell had a goal and three assists while Colin McGuire contributed a goal and two assists. Evan Lombardo, Shayne O'Brien, Joey Giannaras and Andrew Thomas all found the back of the net, while Sean Ahearn, Bobby Distler and Jacob Fuller handed out assists.
Distler scooped a game-high seven ground balls for Lynchburg and Chris Hawley made nine saves for the Hornets (11-7). LC outshot it's guests 46-38.
Josh Currier had three goals and three assists for Virginia Wesleyan, who ends the season 10-7. John Colwell added two scores.
