Lynchburg, VA -- Lynchburg Volleyball was able to play their entire roster vs Hollins Saturday afternoon, picking up a 3-0 sweep for the second straight day.
The Hornets were too much for Hollins right from the start, leading by as much as fourteen after a service ace from freshman Ragan Rudisill in the first set. Lynchburg finished that set 25-8 winners. The second set was much of the same with Hollins falling 25-13 with freshman Jalissa Linz ending the set with her 24th kill of the season.
Coach Elizabeth Ellinger says the win, coupled with the victory over Roanoke the night before, is key to the growth of her young team after a tough loss earlier in the week, "We were very deliberate in our approach to our team meetings, practices, and game prep for the weekend. They executed and relied on each other for the wins."
With the majority of the bench in the match during the 3rd set, Hollins hung around for fifteen points, but dropping the third set 25-15 when lone senior Jen Garrett finshed the match with her 10th kill of the match, giving her 181 on the season. She is on pace to finish with 407 total kills, averaging 15 kills per game. That would be good enough for 2nd most kills in a single season all-time.
Freshman Disa Haugsdahl, six kills in limited action today, says that, "You make the best out of every ball, making sure that you take it and do the best you can with it", when playing against a team that's not on the same level. She went on to say, "If the set is there, destroy it, if not, keep it in."
Coach Ellinger is proud of her team for their consistency, "I am proud of the same product we put on the floor both days this weekend. They accomplished a very big goal in that."
Lynchburg (9-3, 2-1) continues their home stand this Wednesday night from Turner Gymnasium against the University of Mary Washington at 7:00pm.
