Box Score 2 Harrisonburg, Va. -- The ladies of the Lynchburg Volleyball squad finished the first day of competition at the Eastern Mennonite Invitational with two dominating victories. The Hornets defeated Mary Baldwin University easily, 3-1 (25-9, 25-16, 20-25, 25-10) and followed up that macth with just as strong of a win, dropping Salem College 3-1 (25-12, 21-25, 25-12, 25-21).
Lynchburg dominated the first match with a balanced effort on Friday evening with senior Jen Garrett and freshman Disa Haugsdahl leading the way with 10 and 12 points respectively. Garrett recorded nine kills and 15 digs while Haughsdahl tallied seven kills and four blocks. Junior Lynn Walsh recorded 17 assists while freshman Erin Farina added 10 more. Sophomore Anna Moore found a groove while serving, rattling off more than 10 points at one time in the first set. Freshman Lauren Stanford contributed to the production with 18 digs, which was the most for the Hornets in either match.
The second match of the night was one in the same. Garrett collected 13 digs and recorded 25 kills, the second most for a Hornet in a single game trailing only Head Coach Elizabeth Ellinger (29 vs. Southern Virginia in 2001). Sophomore Amelia Dalton smashed eight kills while Haugsdahl and fellow freshmen Jalissa Linz registered eight kills each. Walsh was the go to setter as she assisted on 26 points.
The Hornets look to improve their 2-0 record as they travel back for a second day of competition at Yoder Arena with a match against Catholic University at 10am, followed by a contest with Hood College at noon.
