The Hornets made the trip through the Blue Ridge Mountains to play defending Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) champions Washington & Lee University Saturday evening.
Game Breakdown
- The game was scoreless for the first 8:43 before the Generals struck first to go up 1-0 and would go up 2-0 just 10 seconds later
- Lynchburg would cut the deficit in half when senior Daniel Owens scored an unassisted goal with 2:40 left in the first quarter
- The Generals answered back with 1:26 left in quarter one to go back up by two goals
- Senior Joey Giannaras would beat the goalie with 30 seconds left in quarter to bring the Hornets back to within one
- Sophomore Evan Lombardo would net goals at the 13:52 and 11:50 mark in the second quarter to give the Hornets a 4-3 lead, with assists coming from sophomore Nick Willertz and Owens
- The Generals tied the game at four with 9:46 left in the half on a man up goal and would regain the lead a minute and 20 seconds laterm, going up 5-4
- Sophomore Logan Adams would even the game for the Hornets off an assist from freshman Kevin Rogers
- The Generals would go on a 3-0 run with the first goal coming with 5:25 left in the half and the last one at the 3:05 mark
- Giannaras would add his second goal of the game with 1:08 left in the half to end the W&L run and bring Lynchburg within striking distance
- W&L started the second half on another 3-0 run to go up 11-6 with goals coming at times 13:23, 11:44, and 11:33 but neither team would score a goal the rest of the third quarter
- After 12:16 of scoreless play, the Generals would add another goal to go up 12-6
- Sophomore Andrew Thomas scored at the 11:38 mark to cut the W&L lead to five on a man up opportunity
- Senior Harrison Brennan would narrow the gap to four goals with 8:14 left in regulation
- Just 13 seconds later the Generals would answer to go up 13-8
- Thomas would add his second and third goals of the game on assists from Adams and Lombardo
- Despite outscoring W&L 4-1 in the last 11:38, the Hornets would fall to the Generals 13-10
