From the Face-Off

The Hornets took to the road Wednesday night for an ODAC contest vs. Shenandoah University. Both teams entered the game 2-1 in conference play. 

Game Breakdown

- Lynchburg jumped out to a 2-0 lead with sophomore attackman Evan Lombardo scoring back to back goals, assists coming from junior midfielder Colin McGuire and senior midfielder Dan Owens

- Freshman midfielder Michael Githens scored next for Lynchburg, dodging hard down the alley and firing a shot to the bottom corner giving Lynchburg a 3-0 lead at the end of the first quarter

- McGuire opened the scoring in the second quarter sweeping to the middle of the field and ripping a bounce shot that found the net right under the crossbar

- Lombardo tallied back to back goals for the second time to bring the score to 6-0 in favor of Lynchburg

- Lynchburg would then score three goals in just under 90 seconds with sophomores Nick Willertz, Andrew Thomas, and Logan Adams all finding the back of the net

- Lombardo would score the 10th goal for Lynchburg as he buried a shot in transition

- Michael Brooks scored for Shenandoah making the score 10-1 with 3:41 remaining in the first half

- Adams and Lombardo both scored in the final two minutes of the first half to give Lynchburg a 12-1 lead at halftime 

- Lynchburg opened the half with four straight goals in the first three minutes; tallies came from Owens, junior attackmen Shayne O'Brien, Thomas, and Adams to make it 16-1 with 12 minutes remaining in the third quarter

- Shenandoah would answer with three straight goals coming from Ryan Schott, Jeff Goss, and Connor Bishop all scoring unassisted goals

- Lynchburg struck back with three straight goals, getting one from Adams and then two from O'Brien to end the third quarter with a 19-4 lead

- Sophomore midfielder Griffin Thoreck scored dodging down the alley to open the fourth quarter

- Freshman midfielder Trammel Robinson would answer a Shenandoah goal, the first goal of his collegiate career to make it 21-5

- Schott and Bishop would score the next two goals for Shenandoah 

- Robinson would be the answer again for the Hornets, catching a pass from junior midfielder Eric Corella and slamming the ball into the top corner making the score 22-7

- Freshman attackmen Colin Dean would score back to back goals to end the scoring for Lynchburg with a 24-7 lead

- Shenandoah would score the final three goals of the game with Stephen LaTona scoring twice and Schott once to end the game 24-10

Inside the Box Score

- Junior goalie CJ Santora had a strong showing with seven saves while only allowing one goal in the first half

- Evan Lombardo had seven points consisting of six goals and an assist 

- Logan Adams had five points on four goals and an assist  

- Shayne O'Brien had five points on three goals and two assists

- Sophomore Craig Koester went 10-17 facing off while tallying two assists for Lynchburg

A Look Ahead

The Hornets travel to Ashland, Va. to take on the Yellow Jackets of Randolph Macon on Saturday for a 1:00 p.m. start.
