Box Score

Salem, Va. – The Lynchburg College men's basketball team won its first Old Dominion Athletic Conference game of the season, a thrilling 90-85 decision against the Maroons of Roanoke College in overtime.

Junior guard Devante' Young (Charlotte, N.C.) accumulated eight assists and scored four points, junior forward Connor Schroeder (Blacksburg, Va.) led the Hornets with 24 points and had six rebounds, and freshman guard Reggie Davis (Greensboro, N.C.) scored a career-high 19 points.

THE RUNDOWN

Final: Lynchburg 90, Roanoke 85 (OT)

Records: Lynchburg College (7-6, 1-3 ODAC), Roanoke (8-5, 1-3 ODAC)

Venue: Cregger Center, Roanoke College, Salem, Va.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • After a back-and-forth first six minutes, Lynchburg built a lead on white-hot shooting from the field. Lynchburg was a scalding 13-for-24 (54.2 percent) from 3-point territory in the first half, and Davis scored 17 straight points for LC -- including five 3s -- late in the half. The Hornets ended the half ahead of Roanoke 51-35.

  • The Maroons chipped away at the LC lead early in the second and took a 76-74 lead on Josh Freund's layup with 3:54 left in regulation. Roanoke led for much of the late going, but Logan Seacrist (Fredericksburg, Va.) hit a pair of last-minute 3s, the second of which tied the game at 82 with 24 seconds to play, forcing overtime. Freshman forward Jamil Pasha (Alexandria, Va.) pulled down a couple of key offensive rebounds to make the game-tying 3 possible.

  • Free throws proved their importance in overtime, as the Hornets gained a comfortable six-point lead with free throws made by Chance Greene (Creedmoor, N.C.), Young, and Schroeder.

LOOKING AHEAD

The Hornets will play next at home in Turner Gymnasium against Hampden-Sydney at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 10.
