Lynchburg, Va.-- The University of Lynchburg men's basketball team continued its winning streak with an 87-72 win over the Eastern Mennonite Royals Sunday afternoon on the back of a second-half surge.

Senior forward Connor Schroeder (Blacksburg, Va.) led the Hornets with 25 points and 10 rebounds. Senior wing Austin Wrighten (Woodbridge, Va.) recorded his third-career double-double with 10 points and 10 boards.

Junior guard Chance Greene (Creedmoor, N.C.) put 12 points on the board, five assists, and four rebounds. Senior guard Devante' Young (Charlotte, N.C.) led the team with three steals, eight points, and two assists.  

Lynchburg out-rebounded the Royals 47-34.

It is the Hornets' first 4-0 start since the 2014-15 season, which Lynchburg began with six straight victories.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• The first half started with Wrighten at the free throw line, and his make 9 seconds into the game gave the Hornets the lead for good. Lynchburg extended the first-half lead to 13, but EMU made a 12-1 run late in the half to close the gap. The Hornets led 40-38 at midway.

• Lynchburg took back control after a five-point run by sophomore forward T.C. Thacker (Madison Heights, Va.). The Royals went over two minutes without scoring against strong Lynchburg defense.

• Schroeder piled on three more 3s after halftime, totaling 15 points and seven boards in the second period, to help the Hornets pull away.

LOOKING AHEAD

The Hornets will stay in Lynchburg to play against the Emory & Henry Wasps Wednesday, Nov. 28 at 7 p.m. on Wayne Proffitt Court at Turner Gymnasium.
