Box Score Lexington, Va. -- University of Lynchburg's women's basketball team won its Old Dominion Athletic Conference opener Tuesday night, a 68-60 road triumph over Washington and Lee.
Senior forward Molly Shephard (Charlottesville, Va.) turned in her fourth double-double of the season with a 14-point, 12-rebound performance, while sophomore guard Maggie Quarles (Roanoke, Va.) scored a team-high 15 points and dished out five assists.
Lynchburg also got 11 points and four assists from freshman guard Emily Elliott (High Point, N.C.) and 10-point efforts off the bench from freshman forward Erin Green (Poolesville, Md.) and freshman guard Lizzie Davis (Knoxville, Tenn.).
Megan Horn scored a game-high 22 points for the Generals.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Trailing by 2 late in a back-and-forth first period, Quarles' go-ahead 3-pointer with 1:57 left sparked a 9-1 Hornets run. Lynchburg took a 33-30 lead into halftime after the Generals responded with a 7-0 spattering to end the second.

The teams traded the lead four times near midway in the third period, but Quarles broke a 41-41 tie with a layup at the 4:42 mark, the start of a 14-2 run that ran into the early fourth.

Davis scored eight of her 10 points in the final frame to help Lynchburg preserve the lead.
LOOKING AHEAD
Lynchburg continues ODAC play Thursday, Nov. 29 with a trip to Ashland, Va., for a 7 p.m. date with defending conference champion Randolph-Macon.
