HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Hornets began the game on an 8-3 run over the first 4 minutes, but R-MC rebounded to take an 18-10 advantage. Lynchburg trailed 18-14 after the first period.

  • The second period was a back-and-forth affair that featured four lead changes and seven ties. R-MC retook the lead with Ross' layup to close the stanza. Kolb finished the half with 10 points and seven boards.

  • The Hornets started the third on an 8-0 run to take a 39-33 advantage before the Yellow Jackets stung back with a 6-0 run of their own. The teams traded the lead several more times before Ross beat the buzzer with a 3 to lead by four headed into the fourth.

  • Lynchburg battled back to take the lead with 3:32 to go on a jumper by freshman forward Erin Green (Poolesville, Md.) and again a minute later on a driving layup by freshman guard Emily Elliott (High Point, N.C.).

  • Ross gave R-MC the lead with 28 seconds to play, and a last-chance possession by Lynchburg fell off the rim. The Yellow Jackets added a pair of late free throws to bring the score to its final standing.
