Box Score Lynchburg, Va. -- University of Lynchburg's women's basketball team leapt out to an early lead and pulled away in Wednesday's third period to best crosstown rival Randolph, 80-54, in Old Dominion Athletic Conference play.
Freshman guard Lizzie Davis (Knoxville, Tenn.) scored a career-high 15 points to go with five rebounds and three assists, leading five Hornets in double figures.
Senior forward Molly Shephard (Charlottesville, Va.) recorded 12 points and 12 rebounds -- her fifth double-double of the season -- and senior forward Alex Allen (China Grove, N.C.) and sophomore guard Carolyn Noe (Fairfax, Va.) both also scored 12. Noe added a team-high four assists.
Sophomore guard Maggie Quarles (Roanoke, Va.) scored 11 points.
Randolph's DJ Jackson led the WildCats with 20 points and six boards.

HOW IT HAPPENED

After Jackson scored a quick basket off the tip for the WildCats, Lynchburg went on a 10-2 run that Noe finished with a 3-pointer to take control early. The WildCats retook the lead, 12-11, with 4:07 left in the quarter, but the Hornets went on another run, this one a 12-2 barrage and never trailed again.

Green and Davis provided the spark off the bench in the second, combining for 10 of Lynchburg's 17 points in the stanza to help the Hornets to a comfortable 43-31 halftime lead.

Davis stayed hot after the break with 10 second-half points, helping the Hornets extend the lead.

Lynchburg remains home over the weekend as Virginia Wesleyan will visit Turner Gymnasium Saturday, Dec. 8 at 2 p.m.
